What subject/theme could I use these parts for?

I took apart an old fussball table. Now I have those rods with the little plastic figures of the players. I think they really should be part of an art piece. But I have currently problems with coming up with a decent idea what the piece could be about. Team spirit is a bit too boring. Having little figures of kids climbing around the players free of restraining rules of the game is a bit better, but a bit trite. Does anybody have a better idea what to do with that?

    (okay I had to get over the intimidated feeling first of you being in the top ten...)
    do you mind it being slightly (well actually a lot) political? I was thinking: sports, but restrained (these players can't move freely can they?), then I'm thinking Olympics (probably cuz it's in the news right now). and then I see the rods upwards pointing at the same spot (tent-like construction) creating some mount Olympus where the players can't function at all. yeah the concept needs more work, but it might somehow be inspiring
