I am curious about a scenario where a person wins, say, $250,000 at a site like Full Tilt Poker. First off, can they just transfer the money into their bank account without any problems? After that, what kind of taxes will they have to pay? Are the any (legal) options that would reduce the total tax amount?

Im planning on going to the WSOP next year. I know its 10K to get in so thats not the problem the problem is that i need to start playing so i can get better. I figured online poker would improve my game. I just dont know where to start or how much money i need to begin?

While playing poker tonight, I was down on chips and on tilt ready to go all in regardless of what I was dealt in my hand; but to my surprise, I was dealt Ace & Eight of Clubs. I called the bet which was $400 and there were 4 other players besides myself. The dealer turns the flop which included a Ace, somebody bets, everyone calls including myself. The dealer then flips the turn card which was another Ace. Awesome for me and I bet & everyone calls. by now, the pot is sizable and the River is about to be revealed.
The dealer flips the River card & lo’ and behold it is the last Ace which for me spells QUAD ACES! I put out a healthy bet which looks like I’m trying to buy the pot and I get one caller. Now to her surprise and to he amazement of the others, I flip over my eight and then reveal the death blow which is the unfathomable last Ace to be shown.
The monstrous pot is raked in by none other but me! This is the first time I have ever won or even had QUAD ACES and now I am back in the game after much hoot, holler & uproar! You cannot really get to much better than Four Aces, despite the straight & royal flushes.
So, finaly, this was a first and the timing was perfect. I played with propriety and patience to my advantage & I went on to place 3rd overall, thus concluding my epic adventure in the quest of Four Aces!!!!

Playing poker has been a hobby of mine for a few years, but since I moved to London I haven’t played. So today I threw caution to the wind and ventured on my own to a random pub in Northolt who have a Monday night Redtooth poker league.
My chips after a good hand, it's always fun when the dumb girl does well. The reviews of the pub didn’t exactly make me ecstatic about venturing to an unfamiliar place to play a male dominated card game, on my own. One internet user had posted the following on a pub reviewing site:
“Unfortunately the “regulars” on the right hand side as you walk in by the bar are oh so noisy and rude. ”
Blimey rude, noisy regulars didn’t sound good, but I had a night free and I wanted to play poker.
I walked in to the very much local populated pub and asked a waitress who is in charge of the poker she pointed me in the direction of the tables so I walked over and announced to the large group of guys congregated around.
“Hi I’m Sunshine I’m new and on my own, so be nice. ”
A girl came up to me and introduced herself, she’s pretty with false nails just like me and told me she’s really glad another girl has turned up. I stupidly thought she was the average local but she’s actually a law student.
The game started and I did my dumb girl game, call the chips, “coins” and say, “I can’t shuffle with these nails. ” It’s always funny when the dumb girl does well!
It was a good game and now I’m back to playing poker!
