what do you place behind a dart board?

What do I out behind a dart board to protect the wall from bad throws? Do I hang the dartboard over the protective layer?

    Plywood. Figure out how large it should be, put a nice woodstain on it, set the dartboard on it. Problem solved.

    You're smarter than I am. We (mostly I) pulverized the wall behind our dart board before we put up cork. Make sure whatever you use is either dense enough or thick enough that the dart can't get through it. Our first effort, a piece of carpet and padding, wasn't enough, and thin cork wasn't, either.

    I use a cork bulletin board that has worked very well.

    Make sure you have a bristleboard for darts, not the spun paper. It's worth the extra money.

    The cheapest thing to use is rope. I have used rope around mine and got the idea from various bars that have dart boards.
